Word stress question

Hi,

My question is about the text highlighted in powder blue on the following page http://www.speakmethod.com/500wordsintonation.html

1. Why ‘new’ in new bank was not stressed, but ‘new’ in ‘new job was stressed?

2. Should ‘too’ be highlighted in ‘the pay is good too’?

Thanks.

Musicgold 1. Why was ‘new’ in 'new bank' was not stressed, but ‘new’ in ‘new job was stressed? My guess is that the passage was not accurately proofread.

  • I would have stressed 'job' in 'new job', thus making both of those phrases the same in terms of intonation.
