Word reference?

Hello everybody.

“She was a little old granny, her gray hair cut
short and loose, wearing a narrow satin belt tied flat around her kimono.
She had the hem of the kimono tucked up, her skinny legs with white
tabi socks stuck out from underneath her white waistcoat, and she was
using an umbrella as a cane to help heave herself up the steep stone
staircase.
“I couldn’t tell what was in her bundle, but it seemed really heavy for
something so small. She was wearing geta.

Would you please tell me what it refers to? The bundle? But it seems as if it refers to the little old woman.

Thanks ??
