Hello everybody.
I'm reading 'Little Women' by Louisa May Alcott chapter 26.

girls do care for me, and I for them, and there's a great deal of kindness and sense and talent among them, in spite of what you call fashionable nonsense.
You don't care to make people like you, to go into good society, and cultivate your manners and tastes.

Amey invited her rich classmates to the house for lunch and Jo was against it. The above is what Amey returned to Jo.

Would you please tell me what fashionable nonsense refers to? I think it refers to the rich grills.

Thanks ??
