Word "recover" in the following article

Hi guys,

could you please take a look at the following article and tell me the meaning
of the word "recover" in there?

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/07/new_brunswick_police_recover_b.html

Especially this sentence...

New Brunswick police recovered the body of a man from the Raritan River.

IMHO recovered here just mean "pulled out"....Is that correct?

Word "recover" for me always meant. Reuse, regain. To be honest I don't understand why it used here in this context..Emotion: sad

thanks in advance for explanation

Hi JC; "Recover" is frequently used euphemistically after a disaster such as a flood or earthquake, to give the message to the public that no one else is expected to have survived. It means that only dead bodies will be found. "Recovery" means to locate and retrieve the bodies so that they can be properly buried.

It's used particularly for bodies, though.

After a disaster of some sort, a "rescue" is to get out the living and a "recovery" is to get out the dead.

I don't know why it took so long for my post to post -- now it looks like I'm contracting A Stars, instead of agreeing with her.
