Word query

Is "knowledged" a word
He is more knowledged than before
I know "knowledgeable" is normally used, but wondered about the other

Top answer

[/nq] Probably not. If it were a word, it would be the past participle of the verb knowledge. Our dilemma is that knowledged can be found but not the verb knowledge, only the noun knowledge, which does not by itself authorize knowledged.

It could be a form that has arisen via influence from "acknowledged." I have searched for use of "knowledged" on the web, and most of the examples are obvious mispellings of either "knowledge" or "acknowledge." I have found only a few examples of "knowledged" as an adjective, and most of those met with widespread derision from others. Of course, the power of idiom has time and again introduced new
