Word order in premodification

I found these examples:

a two-year transcontinental journey
a teenage dancing girl

I read in some grammar that nouns in premodification come closer to the head. Here two-year and teenage are nouns and transcontinental is an adjective, and dancing is a participle and yet they are closer to the noun. Why is that so?
Could I get more examples?

Also I have this example

a dancing girl
dancing classes

It says that the first dancing is a participle and the second dancing is a NP. Is it correct? It is rather confusing...espc. when

I can go along with that too. A girl who is dancing vs classes [for dancing / to learn dancing].
