Word Order

Is the bolded word order correct in each sentence below? I tend to favor sentence #1 but am unsure if it will work. If not, which one is preferred?

1) On 5 June 2013 at 1:35 pm, Officer Doe arrived and I submitted to him a compact disc of incident for further investigation.

2) On 5 June 2013 at 1:35 pm, Officer Doe arrived, and I submitted a compact disc of incident to him for further investigation.

Thank you.
