Word order

Hi,

Which sentence is correct ?
1) I went playing tennis with my dad.
2) I went with my dad playing tennis.

Hello Ann, The first seems correct, however the second doesn't sound good to me because it seems you went with your dad somewhere whilst playing tennis. Can you guys validate? Thank you.

Hello Ann,

The first seems correct, however the second doesn't sound good to me because it seems you went with your dad somewhere whilst playing tennis.

Neither sentence is natural. The gerund doesn't work. If you must use "went", it's "I went to play tennis with my dad" if you mean that you met your dad elsewhere and then played tennis with him. If you mean that you and your dad went somewhere together to play tennis, it's "I went with my dad to play tennis."
