Word Order

Hello, I have a quick question about word order. Are both of the following sentences correct? Do they both have the same meaning?

The naturalists wanted to come to reality as close as possible.

Hi, buzzi, The first sentence does not work. It does not convey any meaning that I'm aware of. "To come to reality" could possibly mean "to come back to reality," or to wake up.
