Word of choice

Hi,
Is it correct to say to your professor that "I won't bother asking you to write an excruciating letter for me?"

As I doubted he might not be willing to in the first place..

Is the "Excruciating" the right word or it sounds like a bit weird.

Thanks

Excruciating means "very painful"; what do you mean by "excruciating letter"? Perhaps: Please don't bother writing the letter; I don't need it now. Tom
