Hello dears

These sentences are from a book about stress.I want to know what the words "butterflies" and "gut" mean.thanks

From the time we are children we describe our experience of nervousness and unease by saying we have "buterflies" in the stomach . Our guts , form an early mental repository for feelings of our fear and stress.
