word is result of thought

Is some of the following sentences is normal, or could this thing be expressed better?
The word is the result of the thought.
Or: A word is the result of the a thought.
I mean word as such and human thought as such. And I basically mean that when somebody utters a word, it is a result of a thought. But what I would like to say definitely is:
It is the/a thought which manifests itelsf in the/a word.
But this latter version sounds awkward, or not?
To be precise, I would like to something like the/a word is the form of the/a thought. But when uttered, it is not a form, just a voice, so: some kind of manifestation, I don't know.

A word is a manifestation of a thought Words are manifestations of thoughts. These sound OK to me. I prefer the second one as it allows for the very likely possiblity that there is not a one-to-one correspondence between thoughts and words.
