Thanks a lot, Philip!

What about these?

What are you getting (for) me for Christmas.
What are you buying (for) me for my birthday.
What are you going to get (for) me for Christmas.

Are they all optional in those or incorrect in any of them?

All are optional and would be incorrect if 'for' was included. Also, they need a question mark at the end.

Thanks but how can they be optional and incorrect at the same time?

Sorry, it's been a long day. I meant all are incorrect, not all are optional.

No problem, and thanks. But the sentences are correct without (for) though, right?

Yup.

Another alternative would be:

What are you going to get me for Christmas?

What are you thinking of getting me for Christmas?
