Word gab. Do yo often use it?

Hello everyone,

Could you please help me? I am not a native speaker and I have a task to find more information about word “gab” meaning :
idle or trivial talk
to talk in a rapid or thoughtless manner

I made a research on the Internet and found out that this word is not used very often, except for phrases:
gift of the gab
stop your gab

Can it be also used in phrases like:
let’s gab – let’s talk
do you want to gab – do you want to talk

I understand that it probably will be sound odd and the context is also very important, but I need to be sure that this phrase can exist.

Also does this word have a vulgar, insulting or other negative tone?

Thank you very much for your help
