Word functions

Hi teachers! Can anyone help me? My cousin was answering his module and came across a question like this:

Words Meaning word functions
1. Schoolboy
2. Pard
3. Oblivion
4. Eyebrow
5. Sans

He asked for my help and I suddenly became confused about what to write under the word functions part, but by looking at the words, I can easily tell that one of them is a preposition and the rest are all nouns, so should we write noun and preposition under the "word functions"?

Thanks in advance.

Usually when we ask about word function, it is specific to a context. Do they mean "part of speech"? If so, sometimes that depends on the context.
