Word "fraternity" in US english

Hi guys,

could you please clarify me the word "fraternity" in US english?

Like in this article:

What does it exactly mean there "fraternity in probation"?

May I take fraternity as = fellowship at the school? So fraternity on probation simply just mean "to be a student on the probation"?

thanks a lot in advance

A fraternity is a social club authorized by a university and often having facilities (a fraternity house) for member residence on campus. If fraternity members misbehave (as in your article), that organization may be cautioned (put on probation) and punished by expulsion, etc if an infraction reoccurs. Fraternity: a local or national organization of male students, primarily for social purposes, usually with secret initiation and rites and a name composed of two or three Greek letters.
