How do you call someone who asked a question? Like, when someone posts a question in a forum, then someone gives a wrong answer, and you want to correct the answer by saying "this is not what he (the person who asked the question) wanted". Is there another word for "the person who asked the question"?
Top answer
Inquisitor, interrogator, inquirer, questioner. Or more common, the person who asked the question.

Thank you. Which of these terms would you consider to be the least formal? "Inquisitor, interrogator, inquirer, questioner" all sound very formal to me.
Both "inquisitor" and "interrogator" suggest someone demanding answers from someone who does not wish to answer. "The police chief interrogated the suspect." "Inquirer" and "questioner" sound less aggressive. "She called to inquire about the job vacancy" Clive's phrase "Original Poster" is clear and effective.
