Word choices

Hi. How should I write this?

I threw a chair against/into/through the window which broke/shattered. Then I took another chair and threw it through the hole in the window.

Thanks in advance.

If the first chair made a hole in the window, then it most likely went through the window, so in effect, you threw two chairs through the window. You can say that like this: I threw a chair through the window. Then I took another chair and threw it through the hole made by the first chair.

  • If the first chair made a hole in the window, then it most likely went through the window, so in effect, you threw two chairs through the window.
  • You can say that like this: I threw a chair through the window.
  • Then I took another chair and threw it through the hole made by the first chair.
  • You can't say the window which broke or the window which shattered .
  • That implies that the window had already broken (or shattered) before you threw the first chair.
