The clarity and force of that ideology are considerable , but its (A) sometimes bothers critics, who often scold the director for lacking (B).

The answer is bluntness and subtlety each.
I understand that 'bluntness' fits for (A), but I don't see why subtlety instead of lucidity is the answer.
