Word choice: [later than] or [after]

I have made up the sentences below.

(1) I am not sure if Jack is older than I. He might have graduated from primary school later than I.

(2) I am not sure if Jack is older than I. He might have graduated from primary school after I.

I don't know which one is correct. Please help me. Thanks.

Very formal. In my opinion, too formal. I do not recommend this format.
