Word choice in Certification or Certificate

cer?tif?i?ca?tion

1 [uncountable and countable] an official document that says that someone is allowed to do a certain job, that something is of good quality etc:
We successfully completed the certification for open water diving.

2 [uncountable]the process of giving someone or something an official document that says they are allowed to do a certain job, that something is of good quality etc
certification of
certification of competence

cer?tif?i?cate [countable]

1 an official document that states that a fact or facts are true
birth/death/marriage certificate (=giving details of someone's birth, death, or marriage)

2 an official paper stating that you have completed a course of study or passed an examination:
a degree certificate

These are definitions of certification and certificate each and when certification is used as a meaning of an official document that says that someone is allowed to do a certain job, that something is of good quality etc, I think that the word can be used the same as certificate.

So the two words are interchange for the same meaning in some context? Or is there a meaning difference between them? What do you native English speakers think? Thank you so much as usual.

I, a speaker of BrE, use the words in the same way as MrM, a speaker of AmE.
