Word Choice

What would be the most, shall we say, "idiomatic" way to describe a highly competitive environment. Look at the sentence and options below:

We really have to prepare for the game on Sunday. Competition is ____________ in Denver.

A. (competition) is fierce

B. (competition) is tight (I think that I have heard this adjective to describe competition, a few times, before. Would this be the most standard, informal, "idiomatic' way to describe said word?)

C. (competition) is tough

D. (competition) is rough

If this are not good choices, could you provide me with some? Thanks in advance.
