Word choice

Hi! I want to express that there is a shortage of a large quantity. Is the below sentence correct? Thanks, Fulvio

1. There is a big shortage of teachers.

Top answer

'big' together with 'shortage' is a little strange perhaps, but not wrong. I'd go for 'significant' instead. There is a significant shortage of teachers.
