Does "ignore" mean the same as "pass over", and which is more commonly used?

Several bus drivers have passed over the red lights and got fined on the road.
Several bus drivers have ignored the red lights and got fined on the road.

I've never heard of this kind of use of the phrase "To pass over". I only know it in the meaning of - She passed over to the other side today... (as if she died)

I took it from an online thesaurus site. That's why I need to make sure it's synonymous with "ignore".

Only rarely. In your sentence you need "ignore".

'passed over the red lights' suggests that the lights were on the ground and the bus moved so that the lights were under the bus. This makes no sense.
