Thanks. Just curious, would 'for' work, or is it just grammatically wrong and not possible?

It's hard to say without a context. If it's a test with only one correct answer I tend to think that only to would be correct.

I see. The context is just what I provided, and that is what I had in mind.

What about:

Is 'for' here possible? How about 'in'?

All right. Then I'd still say that the correct answer is to. But for could be possible

"Of" sounds least idiomatic to me.
AnonymousHow about 'in'?
No, I'm afraid it doesn't work (at least not with the intended meaning).

I suggest you follow Maggie's suggestion and use "to" in this particular example.

Your response was to my first question, right?

What about this question:

Is 'for' here correct, or did you mean that 'to' should be used here as well?
0
I'd say it's better to use to

Thanks, but I have had many exams and I always see teachers use: select the best or most appropriate answer for each question. So I don't know what to say!

I'm very wary of labeling things as "incorrect." I'm just trying to say that "to" is the most idiomatic preposition in this case.
