Word choice

Should the final word of the sentence be 'people' or 'peoples'?
She willingly joined the other gods in casting the fiery mountain onto the world of Krynn, devastating the lands and its people/peoples.

Top answer

I assume that 'the world of Krynn' consists of more than one land. She willingly joined the other gods in casting the fiery mountain onto the world of Krynn, devastating the lands and their peoples. I wouldn't say 'their people' is wrong, but 'their peoples' better suits the tone of the sentence.
