word check (quietness)

Couldn't think of a right word offhand to describe the 'emptiness' in this context.

Ever since my brother has left home, there has been a lot of quietness/loneliness here.

Keeping as much of the original wording as possible, in this context, the following would be better:

"Ever since my brother left home, there has been a lot of emptiness here."

Another possibility, if you want the slightly more impersonal feel of the original: "Ever since my brother left home, it has been very quiet/lonely/empty here."

So perfect tense shouldn't be used with 'ever since' phrase?

Ever since you met him you have been sad.

We use past because we refer to the time the person met, which has not continued.

Since the person has been sad from that time to the present we use present perfect. ( have been sad)

True. But how about use a past perfect?
Ever since you have met him, you have been sad.

Doesn't this make sense?

I do not see past perfect here.

Past perfect is used when one past action is with reference to another.

She had (already) done the cleaning when her children returned from school

I meant Present* (have).
Wouldn't the sentence still make sense if I use have?

"Ever since you have met him ..." is not good English.

Means it's not gramatically correct?
