Word advice please?

Hi,

Could you please advise which word is correct or more common in English?


A tire expands / inflates when pumping air in. (Both of these words are correct?)

Water expands / inflates when it freezes.

I can bike fast due to crosswind / headwind / adverse wind. (Three of these words are correct?)
