Won't

Hi,

Example 1: You're rich, or you wouldn't be able to afford this.
Example 2: Let's hope it works, or we won't survive any longer.

In #1, wouldn't is correct since he is able to afford it (it is happening in the present). Won't is correct in #2 because the matter of survival pertains to the future; it hasn't yet happened.

Is my reasoning correct?

Yes, and your examples are fine. Here is another version that seems a little more conversational: You must be rich; if you weren't, you wouldn't be able to afford this. Let's hope it works; if it doesn't, we won't survive much longer.
