Wondering how much more can he take

Hi,

I was today listening a song named 'eagle heart', the line goes:

' All through the night he is lying awake,

wondering how much more can he take,

....'

it make me wondering about the sentence 'wondering how much more can he take' .

from what I have learnt, I thought that 'wondering how much more he can take' is grammatical correct.

So does the auther switch the 'he can' to 'can he' on purpose for emphasis,

or it's also grammatical correct and acceptable ? thogh it does change the meaning at all.

Thank you!

It doesn't really change the meaning. It might be poetice license, but I rather suspect that the writer of the song just has it in his head wrong. I find it somewhat disruptive in the flow of the language as well as in the thought process.
