Wondering, hopeing about stative verbs

I hear often, 'I was hoping that..." "I was wondering if...' etc. Are these correct? I seem to recall some rule concerning stative verbs which can not be in -ing form, such as 'I'm loving her'. Do 'wonder' and 'hope' fall into the same bracket? Thanks in advance.

It's true that stative verbs are not supposed to be used in the progressive. But these verbs are not strictly stative, and represent a mental 'activity', which can

If I heard someone say that, I'd assume he had been watching too many McDonald's commercials. Does it mean the same thing as "I love her"?

[nq:1]It's true that stative verbs are not supposed to be used in the progressive. But these verbs are not strictly ... you pay me now? Pay me now. So this is not completely a grammatical question; pragmatics is important as well.[/nq]
Not to mention semantics.
