english is second language to me.then, I'm wondering, could it be a main job? traveling to foregin country or sending penpal to someone that's all...besides, there are two words linking sound that I could hardly understand, fast speed of native's speech.. as you may listen cnn news..then, why do people say english is important? if it's JUST second language?

All languages are important, especially your native language. English is considered important because of all the languages in the world, more people speak English as a second language than any other language, which means that if you speak English, you can probably communicate with people from all around the world, maybe not in your language or their language, but in English because you would have that language in common.

English is so popular around the world that in many countries, dialects of English (international English) are developing. Many countries have large parts of their population fluent in English as a second language. English is a global language. While its spelling system is a little frustrating to people at times, the language is not tremendously inflected, which means that the verbs, for example, are relatively easy to learn because they have so few forms. It is easy for English to use words in different parts of the sentence also, because words can readily change parts of speech or be changed to accoommodate other functions in sentences. Many nouns can be and are used as verbs with little difficulty. Nouns can readily function as adjectives, too (university student). The English language is rather malleable, easy to work with.

I'm not suggesting that English is so easy to learn. There are areas of difficulty in becoming fluent in English, just like there are in other languages people want to learn as second languages. But you asked why English is so important, so I gave you a few reasons.

Everyone learning a new language perceives the new language as being spoken very quickly by its native speakers. That is partly because the students hasn't learned to hear where one word ends and the next begins yet. That is normal. It gets better with time and practice.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are asking about penpals. Having a penpal in your new language is a good idea and a fun way to practice a new language. I'm not sure what you were asking about that, though.

Don't give up. Keep trying. The more you learn, the easier it will get. There is a lot to learning a language. That is for sure.
