Some people consider that several specific jobs should be gender-based due to the discrepancy of attributes between men and women. Although I accept that this measure may be reasonable in certain situations, I believe that it has adverse impacts on gender equality.
On the one hand, criteria of recruitment tend to be inclined to gender aspects. Firstly, people in some certain societies have not accepted men engaging in traditional women's working areas, such as makeup-related jobs or babysitting. Employers are not likely to hire men because their female customers would be not satisfied for a man to undertake these services. For example, a friend of mine failed at the interview stage when applying to become a kindergarten teacher because he was the wrong sex. Secondly, physically demanding jobs such as miner, blue-collar labor are rarely taken by women, because they could not keep up with the heavy workload, hence reducing productivity in work.
On the other hand, it is widely believed that this would exacerbate gender issues. Separating women from some specific professions could lead them to feel discriminated, because they probably consider that their contributions are not sufficient to be recognized by community. Additionally, our current society is sensitive to discrimination regarding race, gender and religion, which government is struggling to mitigate. Therefore, if we only focus on categorize gender-based jobs without taking gender equality into account, it could trigger human right movements around the world, especially the feminist movement.
In conclusion, although it is relatively reasonable to classify several certain professions which are suitable for each gender, I believe that we may face up to serious gender equality problems if we conduct that.
