Wittingly

Hello,

Regarding the word "wittingly", do you think it can be used as a synomym of "conscientious"? For instance, the following sentences, do they have the same meaning?

I do my work wittingly.

I do my work in a concientious way.

As for the word "witted", my Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary tells me that it means "having the type of intelligence mentioned". But, "to be witted" or "to be unwitted" doesn't it also mean "to be aware/conscious" and "not to be aware/conscious"?

Thanks a lot for your comments,

Ruca.

No, 'wittingly' means 'intentionally', 'knowingly'. It's a legal sounding word.

I think more common is the opposite, ie 'unwitt

The most common use of "witted" is in "slow-witted" or "quick-witted." I don't think I've ever heard it used in any other way.
