Hi

Would you say that without knowing could work where without realizing can/could?

She picked up the parcel without realizing that its owner was a few steps away.
David threatened to fire the clerk without realizing that he was thoroughly dependent on him.

I called him names without knowing he was standing right beh

Personally, I get the feeling that 'without realizing' has a sense of "should have known". This feeling is missing from 'without knowing'. Maybe it's just me.
