Without any in negetives

Since it is correct to say, "This engine does not use petrol.", is it also correct to say: "I do not have children." without any in negatives?

Top answer

Yes, but they are not related. Petrol is a yes-no proposition only, while the number of children can vary. Hence, 'any' is more usual in the 2nd question.
