without

Hi

I got a little bit confused for the below "without". Can anybody explain it?

They were suddenly sacked on Saturday without several weeks worth of wages remaining unpaid.

Thanks

Qut They were suddenly sacked on Saturday without several weeks worth of wages remaining unpaid. I am confused, too. I think the preposition should be "with", not "without".
