Within a generation

The proportion of young adults still living with their parents will pass 50 per cent within a generation.
It seems to me that the above sentence has been complete without the pharase within a generation, maybe I had a wrong understanding because I don't know the exact meaning of this phrase. Is it similar to " soon"?

within a generation seems to me an adverbial phrase of time. How long is one generation equal to? 20 years or 30 year? Does "within a generation" mean within 20 or 30 years?

I doubt there is any fixed number of years, but your estimates are in the usual range. I'd say that "within a generation" means "in about 25 years" if you want an equivalent in years.
