With the utmost secrecy/secret//secretely

From start to finish, filming and production took place with the utmost secrecy, and the first release was not even previewed lest there be a negative backlash.

Hi,
The above is about "The Lord of the Rings." Is it right to interpret the bolded parts in the above as "with the utmost secret" and "secretely." Is "backlash" equal to "criticism?"

Thanks, JJ.

To make sure, is "secret" about the same as "secrecy?"
