With or without The

Dear friends,
my colleagues and I have faced a controversial question about the use of 'the' in the following example.
The article we are translating narrates about Germany and its division after World War II. We need to mention 'united Germany'. Here our question arises. Should we say The united Germany or just united Germany (without the)?

We will be grateful for your opinion on this.
