With or Without Comma

I have a sentence that starts off like this: But of course, with.....

I thought that was ok but a friend proofread and changed it to this: But, of course, with....

My intention was for the sentence to flow, not pause with those commas. Is the first sentence grammatically correct?

  • If you are concerned with flow, you might want to use a lower-case 'but' to connect your sentence to your previous one.
