with me /us present

Dear teachers,
Can I say like this?:

With him present, she dares not tell the truth. She tells us the truth only when he is absent. All that is due to the fact that she is very afraid/frightened of him.

I would be very thankful if you could help correct the above sentence for me.

Thank you in advance

It's OK. This is better: In his presence , she dare not tell the truth. She tells us the truth only when he is a bsent because she is very afraid/frightened of him.

I have to disagree with my esteemed colleague and say that the original placement of "only" was correct.

She only tells the truth when he is absent: This says that she never lies when he is absent.

She tells the truth only when he is absent: This says that he must not be there for her to tell the truth, the original meaning.
