1. Some people get their drinking water the old-fashioned way.

Is the old-fashioned way like the verb dive?

eg) I dived deep. (deep is used as an adjective in many sentences but is used as an adverb in the sentence.)

2. Some people get their drinking water in the old-fashioned way.

Is 2 OK ? (I added "in")

Do it this way.
Do it in this way.

The "in" is optional.

I believe you're right in suggesting that the whole phrase "the old fashioned way" functions as an adverb.

Some people get their drinking water [delivered] daily.

I appreciate you two for the question.

Avangi, you nailed my question!

I thought the old-fashioned way is an adverb too.

but was just not sure about in the old-~.

I don't have any example that it is used as an adjective.

Anyway, I feel like you scratched my itching back with the additional point. Thank you again.
