You mean to say that the last two sentences make it sound as if there are only two girlfriends and a bunch of men?It is better that way. In the original sentence a reader could easily conceive that you are talking about men in general, and they will pretty much understand what you are trying to say. Who knows? Maybe it is even acceptable in practical usage.
