With a focus on

Hi,

1) “My major is Business Management with a focus on or in Economics.”

I heard that both are possible.

2) “A new stand spawned on the empty exhibition space within an hour.”

(The company building the stand was very quick about it.)

Would ‘spawn’ work or is ‘spring up’ more appropriate?

Thank you.
