Wish you would

Hi,

Can 'wish+subject+would' be used for future wishes?E.g.,'He will leave tomorrow.I wish he wouldn't.','They will build a dam but I wish they wouldn't.'

Thanks

The "wish + subject + would" pattern is not strictly future tense. This is more like a subjunctive-type statement, and it can also be used in present tense. For example: He will leave tomorrow.
