Wish with past and would

What's the difference between these:

i. I wish it didn't rain.

ii. I wish it wouldn't rain.

Those are equivalent in meaning. Personally, I tend to choose the one with 'would', but I know that there are others who prefer the other one. CJ

Those are equivalent in meaning. Personally, I tend to choose the one with 'would', but I know that there are others who prefer the other one.

Isn't i. refer to the present, i.e. "now", and ii to the immediate future?
