Wish structure

Hi.
I have heard the phrase" I wish he would have done sth" several times, I don't know whether it is a common mistake or there is a structure that I am not aware of.
My impression is that, the sentence should be written as
"I wish he had done sth"
Your insight regarding this structure is appreciated.

In the UK it is also common to hear people say things like "If I'd have gone there" or "If he'd have done that". I have never been completely sure whether these people think that 'd is "had" or "would", or whether they don't even know. I think in some specific dialects (Northern Irish?) it may actually be "If I had have gone", but I hear it used outside those dialects too.
