Wish someone luck at the beginning of a letter?

Hi.
I was wondering if native English speakers ever begin a letter by wishing someone luck/health or something like that?
E.g. Can I begin a letter with "First of all, I'd like to send my greetings (is "greeting" OK here?) to your family"?

  • Hi, You may ask how is one's family doing but not what you had intended in your question.

We might say something towards the beginning of a letter such as "I hope that you and the family are all well", but typically we save greetings to others until the end of the letter. The last line might be something like "My best regards to your family", or if you know the family well "Please send my love to your parents / wife / the kids".
