Wish

What's the correct form:
"I wish it was\were mine"?
I just wonder if it behaves as "if it were mine.."

Can anyone of the teachers in the forum confirm Pieanne's answer please?

In register 2.5 - 3.5 it's "I wish I were ...".
In lower registers (1.0 - 2.2) it's "I wish I was ...".

It works exactly the same as "If I were ..." / "If I was ..." in conditional sentences.

I highly recommend the use of "were" in such cases, and the unflinching acceptance of "was" when others say it.
